Applying nitrogen on top of the soil can be a risky endeavor.  Using a Y-Drop system can take away the risk.  Nitrogen is applied at the base of the corn plant with Y-Drops.  The photo illustrates how the corn plant can gather small rain events and channel the moisture to the root zone.  This also takes the applied N into the soil profile and into the root area.
